ABOUT US

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Xanadu Lotions and Potions is a small family-run business dedicated to sustainable living and providing nature's simple pleasures. We offer handcrafted natural skincare products.

My daughter displayed sensitivity to most skincare products from stores. After years of trial and error, I realized we could only ensure purity by making our own.

Our customers come first.  We will always strive to provide you with excellant customer service.

Xanadu’s products are made in small batches to maintain quality and freshness.

Product Definition
Below is a list of materials commonly used in Xanadu's products. The chemical, botanical, or scientific name is included.

POLYSORBATE 20

When Sorbitol – a sugar alcohol that can be derived from either a vegetable or a fruit source – is treated with 20 moles of Ethylene Oxide, the chemical reaction results in Sorbitan Monolaurate, which is also known as a Polysorbate (specifically Polysorbate 20 or Solubilizer). Solubilizer is a water-soluble emulsifier, which binds water and oil together.

Polysorbate 20 is a gentle, oily, liquid cosmetic additive that functions as a nonionic surfactant and wetting agent that enhances the spreadability of liquids. As a solubilizer, it helps both essential oils and fragrance oils to attach to various types of cosmetic bases, including liquid, cream, and gel bases, and thereby prevents the oils and bases from separating. As a dispersant, it also helps to diffuse oils throughout water and to prevent the oils from clumping or settling. As an anti-static agent, Polysorbate 20 helps to reduce and prevent the buildup of static charges. Furthermore, it is a thickener as well as a viscosity modifier, which helps prevent changes to a product’s viscosity when it is subjected to varying room temperatures, such as extreme cold or heat.

WHAT IS SODIUM COCOYL ISETHIONATE

Commonly known as Baby Foam due to its exceptional mildness, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate Raw Material is a surfactant that is comprised of a type of sulphonic acid called Isethionic Acid as well as the fatty acid – or sodium salt ester – obtained from Coconut Oil. It is a traditional substitute for sodium salts that are derived from animals, namely sheep and cattle.

WHAT IS SWEET ALMOND OIL (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis)

A non-volatile, non-fragrant oil extracted from the seeds of almonds and used as an emollient and to help skin retain moisture.

WHAT IS COCONUT OIL (Cocos Nucifera)

Coconut oil (or coconut fat) is an edible oil derived from the kernels, meat, and milk of the coconut palm fruit. Coconut oil is a white solid fat below.

WHAT IS FRACTIONATED COCONUT OIL (Capric Caprylic Triglyceride or MCT oil and liquid coconut oil)

Fractionated Coconut Oil, often abbreviated as FCO, is coconut oil that has been distilled to filter out and contain only the medium chain triglycerides of coconut oil. Fractionated Coconut Oil, therefore, is not a whole and complete oil. Within holistic aromatherapy, ingredients that have been chemically altered to either remove natural compounds or standardize specific constituents are usually avoided.

WHAT IS JOJOBA OIL (Simmondsia Chinensis)

Jojoba Oil is noncomedogenic. Although jojoba oil is a botanical substance, its makeup is so similar to the oil (sebum) your body naturally produces that your skin can't tell the difference.

This oil is composed of almost 98% pure waxes, sterols, and vitamins and is widely known as liquid wax rather than oil or fat.
